Qualifications Knowledge of California State Motor Vehicle Code, State Education Code, and California Administrative Code Title 13 related to the operation of vehicles used in transporting students; OSHA standards and requirements to school and special school bus operations; streets, landmarks, and school locations within the District’s service area; schedules and routes buses for regular and extracurricular transportation purposes, athletic events, field trips and other activities; techniques for investigating and reporting findings; ability to understand and successfully apply a variety of pertinent Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines related to public school transportation.

Must be able to interpret and successfully implement District policies, objectives and directives; analyze complex and varied data information from a variety of sources; develop practical and applicable alternatives with justifications and make recommendations.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written forms; prepare a variety of reports and presentations including training programs for large groups of employees; coordinate and oversee assigned functions within a given timeframe and limited resources. This position requires the ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate the work of others; effectively and realistically control and monitor expenditures; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Education / Experience Any combination equivalent to sufficient experience, training, and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above, including supervisory training. Minimum of 5 years Transportation Experience is required.

Licensing and Background Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid California special driver’s certificate. Must submit a recent DMV (3-year minimum) driving record with application.

A criminal history check will be required of the successful candidate prior to employment.

Duties of Position To plan, organize and supervise an effective pupil transportation program; communicate with school personnel and parents regarding pupil transportation matters; maintain continuous contact with dispatchers and drivers to correct problems and concerns; evaluate the job performance of assigned personnel; assist bus driver instructors in planning, organizing, scheduling and directing safety meetings and classes. Employees in this classification receive direction from the Director of Transportation within a broad framework of policies and guidelines. This position exercises responsibility for overseeing and supervising various assigned transportation operations and projects with district-wide scope. This position requires specialized knowledge in the areas of transportation services and related operations, as well as good supervisory and communication skills.

Compensation and Hours Starting Salary: $6,080.20 (monthly)

Number of months: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)

Number of hours: 8 (daily working hours 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
