Facilities Technician - Part Time Greater Somerset County YMCA – Somerset, NJ | Salary: $55,000 - $59,000 | 20 hours per week, Part‑Time

Job Overview Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Part Time Facilities Technician is responsible for the daily maintenance and operation of the facility and grounds. This is a motivated, self‑starter who performs preventative maintenance and repairs while keeping all tools, materials, inventory, and spaces neatly organized and within OSHA guidelines.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, including inspection of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, roof drains, gutters, retention basin inlet grates, HVAC filters and belts, door hardware and locks, and drains.

Conduct troubleshooting and repair tasks such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, outlets, switches, ceiling tiles, and shower components; repairing door locks, hinges, panic bars, ADA automatic entry doors; flooring repairs and cove base replacement; and roof repairs.

Prioritize and handle a wide variety of work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and emergency repair requests.

Interact amicably with staff, members, children, special populations, and the elderly at all times.

Respond to building and health‑related emergencies.

Follow organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

High School graduate or equivalent.

Minimum five (5) years of experience in one or more skilled trades, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and effective safety practices.

Ability to prioritize and manage a wide variety of work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and emergency repair requests.

Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes four weekdays and a half day on Saturday.

Team‑oriented with minimum supervision required.

Computer literacy: proficiency with Word, internet‑based programs, etc.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) a plus.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification; or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Current Bloodborne Pathogens certification.

YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire.

YMCA New Staff Orientation Training within 90 days of hire.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This role requires regular standing, walking, dancing, running, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, handling tools, and communication.
