About Us

We are a growing restaurant group with multiple Brooklyn locations, known for chef-driven operations and high-quality hospitality. We are bringing accounting fully in-house to improve accuracy, efficiency, and financial visibility. This role is perfect for a Controller who is comfortable being hands-on—owning daily accounting tasks now while building the systems and processes to scale.

Role Overview

The Controller will manage the full accounting function across all locations, including AP, AR, cash flow management, and monthly financial reporting. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position : you will personally handle AP/bill pay and bookkeeping initially , then refine processes and help guide future hires as we grow. Tax preparation will remain outsourced, but you will be the primary liaison with our CPA.

Key Responsibilities Financial Oversight & Reporting
  • Own the monthly close process and deliver accurate P&Ls for each location by the 18th of every month

  • Build and maintain KPI dashboards (sales mix, labor %, COGS %, prime costs)

  • Provide ownership with monthly cash flow reporting, forecasting, and variance commentary

  • Assist with annual budgets and help track against projections

Hands-On Accounting Operations
  • Manage and execute all AP and bill pay processes :

    • Enter and categorize vendor invoices weekly (PlateIQ, Bill.com, or similar)

    • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies

    • Propose and execute weekly check runs or electronic payments

    • Maintain organized AP files and vendor W‑9s

  • Record and categorize bank, credit card, loan, POS, and payroll transactions weekly

  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts monthly

  • Maintain AR aging reports, track deposits, and follow up on overdue balances

  • Oversee cash management, including weekly cash drops, deposits, and intercompany transfers

Process Improvement & Internal Controls
  • Implement or upgrade accounting systems (QuickBooks Online Advanced, AP automation tools)

  • Standardize reporting and financial processes across multiple locations

  • Ensure proper allocation of expenses and maintain a clean chart of accounts

CPA & Tax Liaison
  • Prepare sales tax-ready reports for CPA review (they handle filings)

  • Provide documentation for quarterly reviews, year-end tax filings, and any audits

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally in restaurants, hospitality, or multi-unit retail

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and restaurant-specific financial reporting

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (Advanced or multi-location version)

  • Experience managing AP, reconciliations, and month-end close independently

  • High attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment

Preferred:

  • Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience in hospitality

  • Familiarity with AP automation tools (PlateIQ, Bill.com, Melio) and expense management platforms (Ramp, Divvy)

  • Understanding of restaurant KPIs and labor/COGS analysis
