Eligibility This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position. Your County employment must be clearly listed in the work experience section of your application. Position Overview The Scientific Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Department is recruiting for a Fingerprint Examiner III to perform the most complex assignments processing Live Scan fingerprint records, rolled print identification case work, and assisting with special projects for the CAL-ID section. Essential duties include providing input on work performance evaluations; assisting the Supervising Fingerprint Examiner in ensuring staff comply with CAL-ID policies and accreditation standards; identifying and reporting suspected non‑conformance and recommending corrective actions; identifying relevant training and educational courses to advance staff development; and reviewing tenprint casework and reports detailing tenprint impressions comparison and identification findings.

Conditions of Employment

Background:

Applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.

Sponsorship:

San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Experience:

Two (2) years of full‑time journey level experience performing duties for a law enforcement organization equivalent to a San Bernardino County Fingerprint Examiner II (classification AND identification of fingerprints); experience must include use of federal/state/county/local fingerprint identification computer programs.

Note:

Time spent as a Fingerprint Examiner I (Trainee) must be listed separately on the application.

Qualifications

Extensive experience and knowledge of Live Scan capture process.

Certification by the International Association for Identification.

Court transcript or letter confirming the court has qualified the candidate as an expert witness in the tenprint fingerprint field (include certificate number and expiration date on the application).

Examination A competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the application and supplemental questionnaire will be conducted. Provide as much relevant and detailed work experience as possible; resumes will not be reviewed in lieu of the application materials.
