Primary Function
Assess the medical needs of COVE clients and assist in the provision of proper medical care by performing the following duties:
Provide health history and physicals under the supervision of the Medical Director for COVE clients.
Perform medical and psychiatric evaluations under Medical Director protocol.
Adhere to protocols established for the position.
Screen clients for co-occurring disorders and refer to the psychiatric clinic as needed.
Prescribe medication consistent with practice/graduate education.
Transcribe physician's orders.
Administer patient medication and observe patient health status.
Provide medical case management for patient visits to outside resources.
Provide intervention necessary to treat and further determine within the scope of training.
Triage patient medical complaints.
Prepare and maintain patient clinical and program records.
Participate in clinical staffings and team meetings.
Promote and encourage good communication with counseling staff to ensure optimal holistic care of clients.
Arrange client HIV education, testing and counseling.
Conduct educational groups on health-related topics, including co-occurring disorders.
Communicate with other medical personnel in case of emergencies.
Ensure the upkeep of medications and vaccinations for proper distribution.
Obtain all patient medication and update patient medication sheet as needed.
Participate in a monthly rotation for on‑call support of patients.
Support patients at all Cove clinic and program locations.
Submit reports as required.
Provide primary care to patients.
Perform physical exams and patient observations.
Record patients' medical histories and symptoms.
Order, administer, and analyze diagnostic tests.
Diagnose health issues.
Administer medicine and other treatments.
Communicate test results to patients and their families.
Monitor, operate, and maintain medical equipment.
Create patient care plans and contribute to existing ones.
Detect changes in patients' health and modify treatment plans as needed.
Consult with healthcare professionals and families.
Train patients and their families to manage and prevent illness and injury.

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to perform CPR and other First Aid procedures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional listening abilities.
Organizational and time‑management skills, with a demonstrated aptitude for teamwork.
Empathy and compassion toward patients, with the ability to thrive under pressure and during extended work hours.
Proficiency in providing primary care, including initial examinations, physical assessments, and monitoring patient health.
Proficiency in setting up and overseeing medical equipment to ensure accurate measurements and efficient patient care.
Diagnostic expertise, involving the ordering and administration of necessary tests, and effectively communicating results.
Patient interaction and education, including gathering and documenting medical histories and discussing healthy lifestyle choices tailored to individual needs.
Collaborative skills for coordination with healthcare professionals, maintaining updated medical records, and close collaboration with physicians and specialists.
