Utah Tech University
The Athletics Equipment Manager plays a crucial role in supporting Utah Tech University's NCAA Division I athletic programs by overseeing all aspects of athletic equipment operations. This position ensures that all student-athletes, coaches, and staff are provided with high-quality, properly fitted, and well-maintained equipment and uniforms for practice and competitions. The Equipment Manager is responsible for maintaining compliance with NCAA regulations and conference standards, including Utah Tech University's current Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and United Athletic Conference (UAC) affiliations, with an upcoming transition to the Big Sky Conference and Mountain West Conference.
Responsibilities
Oversee the ordering, inventory, maintenance, and distribution of all equipment, uniforms, and gear for all athletic teams' practices and competitions.
Ensure all equipment, uniforms, and gear are inspected and maintained for safety, proper fit, and compliance with NCAA, WAC, and UAC and anticipated Big Sky and Mount West Conference standards. Replace and/or repair equipment as needed to maintain quality and safety.
Collaborate with coaches, Athletics Administration, and University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) to ensure consistent branding and professional appearance.
Serve as the primary equipment contact for the Head Football Coach while managing equipment operations for all other sports through Assistant Coaches and interns.
Manage apparel and equipment vendors, including Nike, and utilize BSN systems for all practice and competition apparel ordering.
Develop and manage the equipment budget in consultation with Athletics Administration and Business Services, including forecasting expenses, fund allocation, and oversight of competition funds.
Work closely with Purchasing Office for all request for proposals (RFPs), request for quotes (RFQs), and sole source procurement procedures for equipment, uniforms, and gear.
Hire, train, and supervise full-time, part-time, volunteer, and student staff to ensure appropriate coverage across all sports, including laundry operations.
Coordinate equipment logistics, packing, transportation, and distribution for road competitions, proactively identifying and resolving challenges.
Apply creative problem-solving and innovative thinking to optimize equipment operations and address unforeseen challenges.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Preferred degree in Sports Management or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in equipment management, preferably within an NCAA or professional environment.
Athletic Equipment Manager Association (AEMA) certification, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
A solid understanding of NCAA rules and regulations related to equipment and compliance.
Proficiency in equipment management software and inventory management systems.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and the ability to develop creative solutions in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, fluid work environment.
Ability to routinely lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions when necessary.
Flexible schedule including weekends, early mornings, late nights, and holidays.
Travel required for all road football games.
Experience supervising part-time, volunteer, and student assistants.

Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $52,000 with a desired start date of February/March 2026.
