Position Overview The Clinical Counselor (CC) reports to the Senior Psychologist and supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I. The CC delivers counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques to incarcerated individuals, aiming to improve mental health and promote preventative wellness skills. The role includes outreach and prevention services for the broader prison population.
Key Responsibilities
Apply licensed counseling interventions under California Business and Professions Code(s).
Conduct individual and group therapy sessions for inmates.
Develop and implement prevention and wellness strategies.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including medical and rehabilitation staff.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reports.
Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Current Clinical Counselor license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science.
Holds or is eligible for a valid license in California; non‑licensed applicants require the license before appointment.
At least a bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or related field (or equivalent professional experience). Unofficial transcripts may be submitted for verification.
Completed and submitted State Examination Employment Application (STD 678).
Background investigation, Live Scan fingerprinting, and tuberculosis testing.
Demonstrated ability to work in a correctional environment and handle a diverse inmate population.
Desirable Qualifications
Associate Clinical Counselor license (California Board of Behavioral Science).
Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to equity and inclusion.
Evidence of collaborative practice with interdisciplinary teams.
