What To Expect We are looking for a highly motivated Powder Coat Painter to work on the most progressive products in the world. This position will be supporting Tesla's powder coating operations located in Brookshire, Texas. What You’ll Do
Follow all safety procedures and protocols at all times, including escalations of equipment and process failures to appropriate support groups and leaders
Proper use of a Powered Air‑Purifying Respirator (PAPR)
Operate electrostatic powder spray guns and related equipment safely and efficiently to apply even coatings while managing color changes and preventing contamination
Perform surface preparation work, such as cleaning, degreasing, sandblasting, masking, and plugging parts to ensure optimal powder adhesion
Inspect parts for quality defects before and after coating, including checking for even thickness, pinholes, runs, or other imperfections using visual checks and measurement tools
Determine if surfaces are ready for coating and perform rework or reprocessing of coated products as needed, while maintaining and cleaning the powder coat booth and equipment, including spray guns, hoppers, and airflow systems, to ensure efficient operation and compliance with quality standards
Read blueprints, job orders, and specifications to understand powder types, pre‑treatment requirements, and curing processes for industrial battery enclosures
What You’ll Bring
1+ year of experience in industrial painting, such as in metal fabrication or manufacturing environments, using powder coatings or other industrial painting processes
Knowledge of rework or reprocessing for painted products, including common defects (e.g., uneven application, adhesion failures), their causes, and corrective methods
Proficiency in manual painting skills, including precise electrostatic application, surface preparation techniques, quality inspection, and basic equipment troubleshooting
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
Ability to work within an alternative work schedule and adapt to sudden changes
Essential Physical Demands
Able to perform physical work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours per day
Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain
Frequently and repetitively, lift, push, and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift, and reach to install or handle parts
Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist, and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day
Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, or other high structures
Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing, with strong manual dexterity and attention to detail for precise coating application
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, arm protection, respirators, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
