PER SOCCo Policy DND-HR-PRO-00001:

Position Overview Under limited management oversight, performs Industrial Hygiene supervisory oversight of IH work in the field. Duties include supervision of IH Technicians and participation in JHA development and review, and ensuring program compliance with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

Plan, schedule and organize work to ensure employee utilization and compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, and budgetary guidelines.

Directly support ES&H Field Management in assigned duties, including oversight of IH Technicians.

Review IH program quality records and transmittal agreements with RMDC.

Instruct employees on work methods and performance expectations.

Provide leadership and motivation to subordinate personnel.

Interface with internal and external groups, senior management, and auditors.

Oversee day-to-day operations of the group.

Provide direction, training and evaluation of subordinate personnel.

Assist with development or review/update of plans, policies, or procedures.

Maintain positive employee relations.

Recommend corrective actions for IH issues.

Recommend changes in the work environment based on professional IH practices.

Ensure employees are qualified to operate necessary IH equipment/monitors.

Lead training of less experienced IH Technicians.

Identify hazards and controls required to mitigate hazards.

Independently determine and develop approaches and solutions to problems.

Assist others in developing and implementing programs for monitoring and preventing chemical, physical, and biological hazards.

Maintain data in data capture systems.

Assist in generating reports, charts, and spreadsheets.

Provide technical, administrative, and/or functional support to the IH team.

Perform duties from general/routine to moderately complex in nature.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Safety & Training Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Actively participate in Safety Work Groups.

Working Conditions Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities) with potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents, or hazardous and radioactive materials. Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment for entry into potentially hazardous areas. Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively. Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally, or 50 pounds frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds constantly. Potential for prolonged driving or riding in a motor vehicle or operating heavy equipment. Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise levels, and areas with radiation and chemical hazards. Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes and inclement weather.
