Job Summary:

As the Respiratory Therapist, you will perform all duties of a Respiratory Technician under the supervision of the Respiratory Clinical Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform respiratory procedures: aerosol therapy, ABG’s, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, overnight oximetry, resuscitations; adult and neonatal.

Clinical assessment on all patients with appropriate recommendations to attending or ordering physicians.

Actively participate in department inservice educational programs.

Flexible and willing to rotate shifts or work odd schedules as needed.

Orients new employees and/or students to department as requested.

Participates in department projects and programs as requested.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire.

Licensed in the state of Connecticut.

Certificate of Respiratory Therapy required; RRT by NBRC preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Active member in good standing with the AARC.

Reads prescription, draws arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatments.

Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions, and modifications compatible with physician’s orders.

Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.

Functions effectively under stress, prioritizes workload, and makes appropriate decisions.

Communicates well with physicians, hospital staff, patients and the general public.

Works independently with minimal supervision.

Maintains a level of professional confidentiality.
