Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sedation Nurse (RN) to join our clinical team at Urology Specialists of the Carolinas. This role is critical to ensuring safe, high-quality care for patients undergoing procedural sedation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to patient safety, comfort, and clinical excellence.
Responsibilities
Administers and monitors moderate sedation in accordance with physician orders, organizational protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
Performs pre-procedure patient assessments, including medical history review, medication reconciliation, and informed consent verification.
Continuously monitors patients during procedures, assessing vital signs, airway status, and level of consciousness.
Provides post-procedure monitoring and recovery care, including patient education and discharge instructions.
Collaborates closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to ensure safe and efficient procedural workflows.
Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
Ensures compliance with sedation policies, safety standards, and emergency preparedness protocols.
Responds appropriately to adverse reactions or emergencies, initiating interventions per protocol.
Qualifications
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience, with experience in procedural sedation, PACU, ICU, ER, or outpatient surgery preferred.
Current BLS certification required; ACLS certification required or must be obtained within a designated timeframe.
Strong assessment, critical thinking, and patient monitoring skills.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-acuity situations.
