Classification: PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE I Age requirement: 17 years or older.

Duties

Performs manual labor in the maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces.

Prepares & maintains parks, landscape beds, athletic fields, cemetery grounds, buildings, medians, & other public facilities.

Maintains park grounds including turf, shrubbery, trees, watering, planting flowers, weed removal, painting, dirt work & related duties.

Provides custodial services in public restrooms including cleaning & trash removal.

Administers basic first aid as needed.

Responds in emergency situations within scope of training.

Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.

Education

Eighth grade graduate.

CPR & First Aid certifications desired.

Experience

Work in general grounds maintenance, including landscape maintenance, park maintenance or related work.

Ability to perform work using non‑powered hand tools employed in park & facility maintenance.

Equipment Non-powered hand tools; hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, shovels, rakes, hand‑held non-powered clippers & edgers, as assigned.

Seventeen‑year‑olds must possess a valid driver’s license to operate utility vehicles & golf carts on city property.

Perform job tasks according to Salina Parks & Recreation safety program & weather alert procedures.

Reliable transportation to‑and‑from work.

Availability to work shifts.

Attend required trainings & meetings.

Review posted event calendars.

Follow scheduling protocols and obtain weekly work schedule.

Adhere to time & attendance guidelines and payroll requirements.

Respond promptly to all communications regarding employment.

Lift 10‑40 pounds frequently.

Pay $12.73–14.73 /hr (DOQ)

Classification: PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE II Age requirement: 18 years or older.

Duties

Fulfill duties of Park & Facility Maintenance I as needed.

Supervise Maintenance I staff in the absence of the Parks Superintendent.

Manual labor in care, minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces.

Maintain parks, landscape beds, athletic fields, cemetery grounds, buildings, medians, & other public facilities.

Maintain park grounds including turf, shrubbery, trees, watering, planting flowers, weed removal, painting, dirt work, lawn maintenance, mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerification, top dressing, weed & pest control.

Provide custodial services in public restrooms including cleaning, trash removal & floor repair.

Perform minor equipment repairs.

Perform routine maintenance & equipment safety inspection.

Apply safe equipment operation & maintenance practices.

Administer basic first aid as needed.

Respond to emergencies within scope of training.

Other job‑related duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or G.E.D.

CPR & First Aid certifications desired.

Experience

One year in Park & Facility Maintenance I or equivalent experience.

Two years’ experience in building & facility or landscape maintenance.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Grounds maintenance & equipment operation experience desired.

Intermediate to advanced work using equipment & tools in parks & facilities maintenance.

Equipment Vehicles: utility vehicles, dump trucks, precision mowers, mowers, back hoes, chippers, man‑lifts, medium‑sized loaders, post‑hole digger, rototiller, seeders & top dressers, tractors & attachments. Hand tools: chain saws, blowers, power tools, hedge trimmers, sprayers, edgers.

Hours

Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (March to October).

May include weekend shifts for snow/debris removal due to extreme weather.

Must work evenings, weekends and/or holidays (e.g., Memorial Weekend, Fourth of July, Labor Day Weekend) and special events (e.g., Smoky Hill River Festival, private parties).
