Description The UNC REX Emergency Department is a fast‑paced, high‑acuity care environment designed to meet the diverse and complex needs of our community. The unit includes a 54‑bed ED with an 8‑bed non‑designated holding area for behavioral health patients and two major resuscitation rooms, dedicated triage rooms, a fully functional radiology suite, and a specialized decontamination room.
Our team delivers expert care to patients ranging from life‑threatening emergencies to minor injuries and behavioral health crises. The position requires a weeklong orientation.
Responsibilities
Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates every two hours or as directed.
Record intake and outputs as directed.
Perform urinary catheterization or Foley procedure and document accordingly.
Set up area for sterile procedures and document accordingly.
Perform minor orthopedic splinting under physician assistant direction.
Document skin breakdowns and notify RN.
Remove IV catheters and document accordingly.
Transcribe, document, and transmit physician orders and other pertinent information.
Work in all three areas of the department—triage, minor treatment, and acute—following departmental policy guidelines.
Qualifications Education Requirements
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
Licensure / Certification Requirements
Listing as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
Prefer three to six months of relevant experience or training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports; speak effectively to groups.
Mathematical: Ability to perform basic operations with two‑digit numbers and measurements.
Reasoning: Apply common sense to carry out instructions written, oral, or diagrammatic; solve problems involving multiple variables.
