About the Role The Environmental Services Housekeeper plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position supports the organization's mission by ensuring that residential, medical, and common areas are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards of safety, sanitation, and dignity.
This role directly contributes to the health, comfort, and quality of life of the individuals we serve.
Key Responsibilities
Clean, sanitize, and maintain resident rooms, bathrooms, offices, medical areas, and common areas according to established schedules and procedures
Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting surfaces, trash removal, and replenishing supplies
Thoroughly clean and sanitize restroom and bathing areas, including sinks, tubs/showers, toilets, mirrors, floors, and fixtures
Remove soiled linens for laundering and replace with clean linens as needed
Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash; clean wastebaskets and refuse containers and re‑line with plastic liners
Perform deep cleaning of assigned areas or other areas of the facility as requested
Follow infection prevention, sanitation, and safety protocols at all times
Safely use, store, and handle cleaning chemicals, equipment, and supplies in accordance with training and safety guidelines
Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Identify and report cleanliness, safety, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor
Maintain assigned equipment and report malfunctions or repair needs (e.g., carts, vacuums, mops)
Clean entranceways and exterior door areas as assigned
Assist with setting up tables and chairs for on‑site events as needed
Interact respectfully and professionally with residents, coworkers, supervisors, and visitors
Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy, safety, and customer requirements
Adapt to changing priorities, special cleaning needs, and emergency situations as necessary
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of related experience; experience in healthcare or residential services environments preferred
High school diploma or GED required
Reliable transportation
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Commitment to maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment
Pre‑Employment Requirements (DODD Facility) The selected candidate must successfully complete all required pre‑employment screenings, including:
Standard background check
10‑panel drug screen, including THC
BCI fingerprinting (must not include any DOD‑disqualifying offenses)
Tuberculosis (TB) blood test
Proof of annual flu immunization
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to perform basic cleaning, sanitation, and infection‑prevention tasks
Ability to safely use, handle, and store cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment
Ability and willingness to comply with safety protocols, including proper use of PPE
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to established procedures
Strong attention to detail and effective time‑management skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team‑oriented environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to operate cleaning tools and equipment safely and effectively
Demonstrated professionalism, respect, and compassion when working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
