The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Region Parks Division seeks an experienced
Senior Parks & Facilities Maintenance Worker
to perform general park and building maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. Successful candidates will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, trash removal, athletic field maintenance, trail maintenance, cleaning and repairing park buildings, and snow removal by working in a team environment. This is a park/general maintenance worker at the experienced level working primarily outdoors, involving operation of most grounds maintenance equipment. Most assignments are as part of a group, but occasionally may work independently. The selected candidates will perform other related duties as assigned.
This position works at the Bock Road Maintenance Facility in Fort Washington, MD, with a Monday‑Friday work schedule from 6 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. However, the work schedule and location may be changed based on program needs.
Operating vehicles and equipment including riding mowers, tractors with attachments, trucks, front‑end loaders, backhoe.
Landscaping duties include spreading grass seed, lime, fertilizer, and topdressing on fields by operating tractor with attachments. Also, includes planting, trimming, and pruning trees and shrubs.
Performs maintenance and installation of park fixtures and furnishings.
Complete preventive maintenance tasks.
Operates light to medium trucks and various pieces of equipment to perform routine park maintenance tasks such as loading and unloading materials.
Assists in setting up, monitoring, and taking down Commission programs and rental events. Informs visitors of rules and regulations. Opens and closes Commission facilities.
Interacts with visitors daily in a courteous and effective manner.
Snow removal and other related weather duties.
Install amenities such as signs, grills, picnic tables, fence (chain link and split rail), basketball rims, and nets.
Perform tree maintenance duties. Operates chain saws. Operate chipping machine to grind brush into mulch.
Operate stump grinder to remove tree stumps.
Perform routine playground maintenance and high‑frequency safety inspections on area playgrounds. Working as a team and under direction, apply playground wood mulch and make repairs to playground structures.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Pass Commission medical examination.
18 years of age.
Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi‑skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.
Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
