Department Perioperative Services - Sterile Processing
Directs and oversees employees for the provision of surgical instrumentation reprocessing functions including collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection and distribution.
Responsibilities
Provides internal Sterile Processing support for the Operating Room, nursing units, and specialty procedural areas
Provides external support for Kootenai Outpatient Surgery and Kootenai Clinic Physicians
Oversees department schedule and directs staffing/daily assignments, writes new/updates policies and procedures
Collaborates with Manager for hiring, disciplining, and terminating of employees
Performs audits and documents as necessary
Assures QA documentation is complete
Directs instrument repair process and order of replacement instruments
Assists with capital purchases
Oversees instrument tracking system for all users
Attends meetings and committees
Performs other related duties as assigned
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree required; relevant certification, such as Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL), or 2 years related experience may be accepted in lieu of an Associate’s degree
Continuing education and certification following hire strongly encouraged
Minimum 3 years’ related experience required in addition to education requirement
Central Service Certification through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required
Familiar with AAMI & AORN recommended Practices and Standards and other industry standards and best practices
Has knowledge of and can use office suite programs to create documents and spreadsheets as needed
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs
Must be able to maintain a standing position
Typical equipment used in a clinical job
Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend
Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
