The Role Based in Minneapolis, you’ll support the U.S. Enterprise through volunteer management and critical logistical support, helping to keep volunteer operations on time, well organized, and clearly communicated. You will play an important role in ensuring Alight’s policies and procedures are consistently followed and that its commitment to quality improvement and accountability in humanitarian work is upheld.

You’ll be a strong fit for this role if you are a self‑motivated, client‑oriented team member with strong personal ethics and integrity, and a commitment to accountable stewardship of Alight’s resources. You will also bring the interpersonal and intercultural skills needed to build trust and strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, along with a high level of flexibility and comfort navigating ambiguity.

In this role, you’ll be a key contributor as the U.S. Enterprise navigates a period of significant growth.

You’ll be guided by and receive support from the Program Director.

The Team Alight U.S. supports New Americans in the Twin Cities by connecting them to the networks, resources, and knowledge needed to navigate employment, education, and other U.S. systems effectively. We also build trust and connection within communities, bringing newcomers and long‑time residents together. In this role, you will join the Alight U.S. team, while also partnering with Alight’s global team, which provides essential back‑office support to help achieve program and project goals.

The Responsibilities Building a shared organization takes time and intention. We will always be becoming Alight, which means your work will evolve as well. For now, here’s how you could anticipate spending your time:

Volunteer Engagement – 75%

Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteers and the bridge to working with Alight staff and customers

Maintain the volunteer platform, Timecounts, including posting volunteer opportunities, ensuring information is current and accurate, and responding to all volunteer inquiries in a timely, high‑touch manner.

Ensure all volunteers complete required onboarding documentation and background checks prior to scheduling.

Provide volunteer orientations and support new volunteers as they transition into their roles.

Train volunteers in role‑specific responsibilities and new skills, as needed.

Lead all volunteer communications before, during, and after service opportunities, providing timely, high‑touch responses, including gratitude messages.

Ensure a safe, inclusive, and well‑supported working environment for all volunteers.

Coordination with Program and Event Teams – 10%

Proactively plan and manage volunteer schedules, ensuring activities are fully staffed and contingency plans are in place.

Coordinate with program and events teams to develop and share staffing plans that align volunteer roles, shifts, logistics, and overall experience with program or event needs.

Data Tracking and Continuous Improvement – 10%

Update and maintain the volunteer scheduling system, tracking volunteer participation and hours.

Provide regular reporting on volunteer engagement and hours to the program manager.

Evaluate volunteer performance and feedback, sharing insights with the program manager to support continuous improvement.

Other – 5%

Other duties as assigned to support the work of the US Enterprise, for example, contributing to program design and reporting where relevant; contributing to the planning, preparation, and participation in events and engagements; participating in insights conversations with newcomers and/or partner organizations.

We’re also looking for the following competencies:

Experience and Background

Background in development and or humanitarian assistance preferred.

Prior experience in project or volunteer management desirable; experience with Timecounts platform a plus.

Communication and Representation

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and representation skills, with the ability to represent Alight professionally at all times.

Proficiency in an additional language preferred.

Organization, Systems, and Execution

Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Detail‑oriented and systems‑minded at the same time, with the ability to stay engaged in both repetitive tasks and work requiring critical thinking and analysis.

Demonstrated ability to follow through on short‑ and long‑term projects and communicate progress clearly to the team.

Work Style and Adaptability

Highly motivated self‑starter who works well independently while also taking direction effectively.

Flexible and resilient, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and cope with stressful situations.

Takes ownership of responsibilities and delivers work with care and accountability.

Cultural Competence

Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with multi‑cultural, multi‑lingual staff, volunteers, and communities.

Technical and Practical Requirements

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Willingness to work on‑site, travel between program locations, and work flexible weekday and occasional weekend hours.

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Reliable transportation and ability to drive to project sites.

Benefits & Compensation Compensation: $24.52/hr – 26.93/hr, depending on experience.
