Research Experience Associate, Vartan Gregorian Center for Research in the Humanities Join our team at the New York Public Library and help keep the Gregorian Center welcoming and research‑friendly for scholars, fellows and staff.

Overview The Vartan Gregorian Center for Research in the Humanities is located on the second floor of the NYPL flagship location. It serves as a hub for research, offering five application‑based study rooms, programming spaces, and classes. The Center provides orientation, instruction, and research support to bring scholars worldwide closer to the Library’s collections.

Responsibilities

Staff the welcome desk, projecting a positive and courteous attitude while providing exceptional public service and assistance to researchers and the general public.

Provide general information and directions to researchers, answer basic questions about library operations and procedures, and make referrals to the appropriate place or person for assistance.

Support the maintenance of the Gregorian Center’s office: keep the study room roster up to date, manage files, create templates and flyers, edit newsletters, and assist with Library fellowship support.

Work with colleagues to ensure the Gregorian Center maintains an environment conducive to research and public services.

Help set up Center spaces for daily use, events, and programs—providing occasional staffing support at events.

Assist with opening and closing procedures in the Center’s spaces.

Assist with collection delivery and returns as needed.

Communicate with researchers affiliated with the Gregorian Center regarding application and admissions matters and general day‑to‑day questions.

Perform other related tasks as needed.

Required Education & Experience Current enrollment in a graduate degree program at an accredited school.

Physical Duties

Lifting up to 25 lbs. required.

Schedule The position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays, and may vary based on library needs.
