Hiring Range: $20.00 - $25.00 This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.

Schedule:

Full Time 40 hours per week, Benefit Eligible M‑F 8:00am – 5:00pm Works one evening per week 11:00a – 8:00pm Rotating weekends

Independence Regional Library serves a diverse population in the Southeast Charlotte area. This role is a Teen Services Library Associate position. Located across the street from East Mecklenburg High School, Independence Regional sees a high volume of afterschool teen customers during the school year. In addition to standard library tasks, the selected candidate, working with the Teen Services Librarian, will be responsible for the creation, planning, and delivery of dynamic programing, ages 12‑18. The Library Associate also represents the library in the community, facilitating outreach, and fostering collaborative partnerships with local organizations.

The Library Associate works within the branch to create a welcoming environment for all. Responsibilities include circulation tasks, staffing service points, and assisting customers of all ages with resources, employment, and technology. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative and flexible team player with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Position Summary Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.

Essential Functions

Perform circulation activities

Provide service desk coverage

Create and deliver programs to age‑appropriate audiences

Assist with managing teen volunteers

Prepare program reports

Provide research assistance to customers

Utilize integrated library systems software

Assist customers at several service points

Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes

Maintain library’s collection of materials

Assist with volunteer managementPromote and market library’s programs; collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs

Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted: Yes

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual - Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)

Experience working with teens

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of

Alpha‑numeric sorting systems

Various library systems

Telephone etiquette

Young adult literature and developmental stages of teenagers
