Who We Are Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies – Nuclear & Environmental Services is looking for an Engineering Technician 4 to join the team in Newport News, VA. Engineering Technicians in the Maritime Operations group support a wide variety of functional areas at Newport News Shipyard, specifically supporting Newport News Shipbuilding in the Nuclear Propulsion Division in key roles in Nuclear Test Engineering.

Responsibilities

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.

Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.

Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).

Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas.

Conducts preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency, and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.

Uses a personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.

May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

Qualifications

Associate’s Degree or other 2‑year technical degree in a related discipline with 6 years of related experience, OR High School Diploma or equivalent with 8 years of related (DoD/USN) experience.

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

U.S. citizenship.

Prior Navy nuclear propulsion experience, Department of Energy or commercial nuclear power experience.

Bonus Points for Having

Actively pursuing an ABET‑accredited bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.

Prior nuclear operations or work control experience.

Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate.

Four (4) years of related manufacturing, shipbuilding, or trades experience.

Physical Requirements Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity; a waterfront office work environment is normally encountered.
