THE OPPORTUNITY

The Social Worker I/II position for Adult Protective Services and In-Home Supportive Services is a front line intake position where the person is often the first contact individuals have with the programs. In support of Adult Protective Services, this position will receive reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation, document accordingly and participate in a triage process to determine the next steps including potential urgent/emergent response. In support of In-Home Supportive Services, the position will also conduct the initial screening calls with applicants to begin the process of determining an individual's eligibility for the program. RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct interviews with clients, family members, and others in their home, in the office, or via telephone to assess the basic social, physical, and mental needs of clients and obtain health information in order to identify and provide social services. Perform case management of moderate difficulty and evaluate individual and family case information to assess the safety of children and adults; determine appropriate types and methods of treatment. Assess reports of suspected abuse; may be required to work on‑call; may provide information to law enforcement or district attorneys. Make home visits in connection with casework assignments. Counsel or support clients with complex or specialized needs; provide crisis intervention. Develop and carry out culturally sensitive non‑complex to moderate treatment plans for an assigned caseload in conformance with Agency, state, and federal requirements; assist clients and family members to develop strategies to accomplish case plan goals. Refer clients to other staff members or to community resources for direct and intensive services and specialized counseling as necessary; advocate on the clients' behalf for the most appropriate services including enabling services. IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to working specifically with the older and dependent adult populations; be an active, engaged individual with strong social services customer service skills; collaborate professionally with all County and community partners (i.e. law enforcement, hospitals, etc.); demonstrate solid organizational and computer skills with a high attention to detail, be able to work independently as well as part of a team and be someone who asks questions, makes suggestions and knows when it is appropriate to take the initiative. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Social Worker I:

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in social or behavioral science, human services, psychology, anthropology, sociology, counseling education, gerontology, or a closely related field. OR Successful completion of thirty (30) college semester units or forty‑five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty‑two and one half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or another social or behavioral science; and one (1) year of full‑time experience performing duties equivalent to the County's classes of Social Service Aide, Eligibility Specialist II, or Employment and Training Worker II. OR Three (3) years of full‑time experience providing direct client services, such as independent living services or counseling in a group home setting to disadvantaged adults or children in a private or public agency.

Social Worker II:

One (1) year of full‑time experience performing duties equivalent to the County's class of Social Worker I. OR Two (2) years of full‑time social work case management experience; and thirty (30) college semester units or forty‑five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty‑two and one half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or another social or behavioral science.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record. APPLICATION SUBMISSION

A written exam will be used to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The online examination is tentatively scheduled for January 29, 2026. If you meet the minimum qualifications and are eligible, you will be notified by email at least one week prior to the exam. If you have taken this exam within six (6) months prior to the scheduled date, your score will automatically be transferred; if you have taken it more than six months but within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date, you may elect to transfer your previous score or sit for the exam again.
