Position Overview The Rothrock Forest District is seeking an enthusiastic and diligent individual to serve as a Forest Maintenance Worker for the upcoming season. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for those who love the outdoors, are dedicated to stewardship and management of our forests, and are prepared to tackle physical tasks, endure varying weather conditions, and respond to changing demands.

Description of Work As a Forest Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and construction of State Forest roads, facilities, and equipment within Rothrock State Forest. Key duties also include wildland fire suppression, fire prevention, and pre‑suppression initiatives. You will collaborate closely with seasoned staff and fellow workers in a team‑oriented environment that prioritizes effective task execution, and may serve as part of Pennsylvania’s Specialized Wildland Fire Crew, responding to federal emergency incidents outside the state.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Seasonal full‑time employment. The season runs from approximately March 2026 through November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. Employee will automatically return to employment in March 2027.

Work hours: 7:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Wednesday; 7:00 AM–4:30 PM, Thursday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

Telework: This position does not allow telework.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

Qualifications

One year of experience in laboring work, including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment

Must possess a valid PA non‑commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
