About the Unit The Sterile Processing Department is a fast‑paced work environment. Upon hire, team members attend a 90‑day orientation. During orientation techs attend an SPD 101 class where educators teach the department’s standard of work and regulations. Techs will have a preceptor and assemble case carts according to surgery schedules. Completed carts are transported to the OR and placed in designated area. Depending on your hire site in Grand Rapids, departments anticipate 40‑90 cases per day. All team members wear surgical attire.

Orientation & Training New hires complete a 120‑day orientation program. Orientation runs 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, for 7 weeks. Afterwards, employees move to their regular shift for the remainder of orientation.
