Job Description and Duties Under general supervision of a Dispatcher‑Clerk Supervisor, the incumbent receives functional supervision after a period of training and job assimilation; supervision is not subject to continuous and direct control. The role involves using a 40+ channel radio, answering telephones, operating word processing equipment, maintaining records, and entering data onto various spreadsheets and reports. The incumbent should have general geographical knowledge of the area and must possess a valid 40 wpm typing certificate. A dispatcher‑clerk is required to pass a Department of Justice background check and a drug screening test prior to appointment.
The District Communications Center (DCC) is responsible for dispatching for the entire nine Bay Area counties and parts of three other counties that border our District. The nine Bay Area counties are: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. The DCC also handles some areas in Sacramento, San Joaquin and Lake Counties.
Eligibility and Examination Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Dispatcher‑Clerk, Caltrans exam. Candidates who do not have current eligibility and/or who will be new to state civil services employment must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the exam and search by typing in the classification title.
Special Requirements
A valid typing certificate certifying 40 net words per minute is required.
Must pass a DOJ background check via LiveScan and a drug screen prior to final job offer.
Qualifications Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification(s). Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are basing your eligibility on education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification. Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a transcript/degree U.S. equivalency report evaluation.
