EMS Student – “Earn While You Learn” EMT Academy
AMR is offering a special opportunity to earn a paycheck while learning how to be an EMT, with a full-time position after completion.
About the Program The Academy is a rigorous multiple week program that qualifies employees to take the National Registry of EMT exam, then become licensed EMT‑Basic. There is no cost for the class; all books, tuition, fees, and uniforms will be paid. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state licensure, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position within the operation.
Qualifications / Requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Have proof of a HS diploma or GED
Have the ability to meet all health standards of the education program, including immunization and health screenings
Successfully complete pre‑employment screening (motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug test, academic/cognitive screening, physical agility test)
Possess a valid state driver's license
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Drive an emergency vehicle to/from calls and transport patients safely and efficiently.
Demonstrate competency in handling emergencies using all basic life support equipment and skills.
Assist in carrying patients by stretcher or other device and secure them inside the vehicle.
Initiate patient treatment and care using initial protocol based on patient condition.
Conduct basic life support skills.
Obtain and preserve samples of substances to assist hospital personnel, as established by local procedures.
Observe and keep records regarding patient symptoms.
Communicate information to other healthcare members, patients, families, and responders as necessary.
Accurately and completely document all information required by GMR and local/state medical control.
Complete and submit all documentation (i.e., Daily Check Sheet).
Communicate any delays, service issues, supply shortages, or equipment malfunctions to supervisor promptly.
Follow up with customers to obtain feedback on services; seek process improvement opportunities.
Inspect, safely operate, and maintain all equipment, supplies, and tools per GMR and local/state standards. Requisition and restock supplies.
Check emergency vehicle regularly for operating condition.
Clean and maintain the cleanliness of GMR property, vehicles, equipment, buildings, and surrounding area.
Maintain a safe and healthy workplace per OSHA and GMR standards.
Stay current with leading industry practices and knowledge base.
Comply with all current policies and procedures; stay aware of policy changes.
Maintain all required licenses and certifications.
Attend all required staff meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Post‑Course Path After successful completion, the employee will be eligible to take the written and skills test through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Once certified, the employee will submit required documentation for state EMT license. With the license, employees choose their full‑time shift, complete new employee training, and qualify for benefits.
