Overview
Under the direction of the UC Davis Health EH&S Director, the Center of Excellence—Systemwide Regulated Waste Management serves as the university’s subject matter expert and systemwide program leader for regulated waste management. The position provides leadership, coordination, and technical expertise to ensure regulatory compliance, program consistency, and continuous improvement across all UC medical centers, campuses, and affiliated facilities.

Minimum Qualifications
Required to hold a valid California driver’s license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience/training.
Minimum eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience managing hazardous waste or environmental compliance programs.
Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local hazardous waste regulations (RCRA, DTSC, CUPA, DOT, OSHA).
Advanced technical understanding of hazardous, universal, medical, and radiological waste management practices.
Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills to coordinate systemwide initiatives.
Proficiency in policy development, contract administration, vendor management, and regulatory audit coordination.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for collaboration across diverse teams.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and foster collaboration among campus EH&S and healthcare units.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP); 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Engineering, or related field.
Experience in large, decentralized organizations and cross‑campus program leadership.
Experience in healthcare, higher education, or research environments.
Knowledge of sustainability and waste minimization strategies.
Ability to represent the University with external agencies and stakeholders.
