Highland Family Medicine is seeking FNP Residents for its 2026‑27 rural class. Candidates will work a 1‑year FNP residency with the Highland Family Medicine / TriCounty Family Medicine team. Cohort begins the first week of September 2026 and runs through August 31, 2027. Chance to stay on as a permanent FNP after residency is a possibility.
This position is an Advanced Nurse Education Nurse Practitioner Residency funded position. Candidates who complete residency may be eligible for loan forgiveness.
Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to patients throughout the lifespan in precepted continuity clinics.
Deliver care according to professional Nurse Practitioner and community standards for advanced clinical practice utilizing clinical practice and Family Medicine guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
Guide patient care by state and federal laws, DEA regulations, and the New York State Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act.
Participate in structured postgraduate residency training sessions including rotations through specialty clinics, weekly formal learning sessions on complex clinical challenges, chronic disease management, inter‑professional projects focused on population health, didactic training in leadership, and team quality improvement (QI) cycles.
Have no call responsibilities.
Travel Several specialty rotations and core training are in the Rochester area; additional rotations may be required in the Southern Tier, Brockport, or Canandaigua. Travel reimbursement is available for eligible travel expenses.

Education: Fulfills the educational requirements to be a licensed FNP
Experience: 3‑5 years of experience as a registered nurse prior to completing a Master’s program is desired.
License/Certification: Licensed nurse practitioner in New York for specialty practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner with full prescriptive privileges by start of residency. Active DEA registration, national certification preferred (e.g., AACN or AANP), BLS certified.
