Position Description St. Paul Academy and Summit School (SPA) seeks candidates for a long‑term substitute in Middle School Math. The position begins Late January 2026 and ends Early June 2026. The salary range is $20,397 – $24,551. The instructor will teach one sixth‑grade math course and three Algebra classes, and will act as an advisor to a group of Middle School students.
Successful candidates should bring experience in teaching and engaging middle school students across all foundational math content areas, including pre‑algebra, geometry, and Algebra I. Training and experience working with middle school students in Math in Focus/Singapore Math is desired, as is the willingness to receive training in advance of the start date. The teacher will guide students through content, research, and analysis that emphasizes critical thinking, conduct discussions in a student‑centered way, and collaborate across math levels and advisory teams.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Math or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Demonstrated passion for mathematics and a track record of leveraging this passion into effective practices that encourage students to think creatively, engage with ideas deeply, and lead with intellectual curiosity
Committed to developing and practicing cultural competence in teaching and operating effectively in diverse environments
Experience teaching full‑time in a Middle School environment
Create developmentally appropriate curricula
Establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment for students
Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the needs of all students
Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents/guardians
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families
Advise students effectively and contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom
