Summary The Manager of Engineering is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and cost-efficient solutions built on best practices, tailored to customer objectives, while driving innovation to streamline operations and consistently fulfill commitments.
Responsibilities
Keep informed of best-in-class tools and techniques for solution design.
Track all projects and provide communication and guidance to engineering leadership.
Enlist required resources to support CI projects including WMS Engineering, Operations, HR, Quality, and others.
Analyze workflow (inbound, put away, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, VAS) to ensure accuracy and execution.
Configure distribution system functionality (e.g., WMS, LMS) to optimize performance.
Perform special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functions.
Perform cost/benefit tradeoff analysis and develop ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system, or technology change.
Develop logistics engineering strategies with the engineering leadership team.
Participate in “DSV Quality Planning” (DQP) sessions with new clients validating requirements and processes.
Documentation & Reporting
Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions within scope.
Review data and summarize expectations to address gaps in operation.
Identify areas for improvement based on analysis of data and observations.
Communication
Communicate opportunities for improvement.
Help determine key metrics and provide recommendations to guide management.
Assist with developing and presenting training materials and classes for distribution processes.
Relationships
Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate on projects.
Support the labor management program, including methods and procedures, engineered labor standards.
Ensure alignment among all operations’ policies, procedures, and ongoing improvement projects.
LEAN Operations
Educate team in LEAN expanding knowledge base to support and develop a sustainable continuous improvement culture.
Facilitate use of LEAN methodology in collaboration with our global team and recommend solutions.
Deploy statistical tools such as Pareto Charts, Histograms and Cause & Effect Diagrams.
Leverage Value Stream Map or Flow Diagram of process to identify critical to quality points.
Use FMEA of the process being evaluated to quantify impact.
Maintain SME in proven industry methods and tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC, value-stream mapping, and 5S.
Work with leadership to drive continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshops.
Set the standard for innovation within strategic and operational problem solving.
Apply traditional concepts to a variety of material handling environments.
Ensure that all projects include a sustainability component and drive adherence within the organization.
Illustrate continual improvement successes in a case study before & after format that quantifies value.
Project Management
Assist with developing and rolling out strategies and projects.
Determine feasibility of projects factoring costs, available space, schedule limitations, company goals, technical requirements and economic factors.
Develop and implement project activity plans and timelines, coordinate subcontractors, facility management and field service personnel, and resolve problems in area of logistics to ensure meeting of contractual commitments.
Other Duties
Drive standard approach for US based operations and coordinate with Canadian counterparts.
Perform other duties as required.
May need to backup Engineering Leadership on occasion.
Maintain fiscal responsibility towards department budget.
Compliance with Internal Labor Regulations, Human Resources Procedures, Security, Safety and Hygiene Measures & Procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4walls) environment.
Prior leadership positions directing Logistics Engineers in 3PL/supply chain environment.
Advanced knowledge of statistics, Excel, Access, Power BI.
Proficiency in MS Office Applications, AutoCAD, Lean, Six Sigma tools.
Knowledge of various storage methodologies and material handling equipment.
7 years’ experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4walls) environment (preferred).
Green Belt Six Sigma / Lean Certified (preferred).
Experience dealing with end users, vendors, and clients (preferred).
