Head Age Group Coach – CCA Marlins

The CCA Marlins swim team is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated part-time Head Age Group Coach. We are seeking a candidate with a true passion for coaching and the ability to inspire and develop swimmers at every stage of their journey.

The CCA Marlins currently claims approximately 200 swimmers, ranging from novice to Junior National level swimming. The team manages aquatics programs at two locations in the Roanoke Valley, the Carter Athletic Center and the Lancerlot Sports Complex. The Roanoke Valley is uniquely nestled among the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern Virginia. A premier destination for outdoor recreation, Roanoke is located within three hours of Charlotte, Richmond, and Washington DC.

This is a part-time, salaried position with 25-30 hours per week expected. The team covers all travel, meet expenses, certification and coach’s education.

Responsibilities Culture & Community Engagement

Foster a friendly, inclusive team culture reflecting the team motto “For the Love of Swimming”

Proudly represent the program within the region and the wider swimming community

Athlete Development & Coaching

Design and implement training programs for age group (14&Under) practice groups, tailored to swimmers of varied abilities and competitive levels

Actively coach the Age Group Gold swimmers (11-14 year olds) and assist group coaches with younger swimmers

Train, motivate, monitor progress, provide feedback, and supervise swimmers in the development of proper stroke technique, endurance, and racing skills to help swimmers achieve their goals

Coach all swim meets with age group (14&Under) swimmers in attendance

Assist the Head Coach in the oversight of the dryland training program partnership

Leadership & Communication

Communicate effectively and regularly with swimmers, families, and coaches

Attend regularly scheduled staff and board meetings

Demonstrate professionalism and integrity by leading through example

Program Operations & Administration

Maintain a safe and organized aquatic environment, adhering to all pool safety protocols

Assist the Head Coach with administrative aspects of program, including scheduling, equipment, meet planning, and team logistics

Uphold Safe Sport policies to promote a safe, positive environment for all athletes

Qualifications

Certified or willing to be lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certified thru American Red Cross

Strong knowledge of current stroke techniques with a certification of ASCA Level 3 Minimum

Must have all USA Swimming Certifications including a Background Check, Athlete Protection Training, Safety Training and CPR, and be in good standing with USA Swimming and the LSC

Experience coaching swimmers of all ages, especially age group (14&Under) swimmers

A minimum of 3 years coaching experience is preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organization and time-management skills

Experience with Team Unify, Team Manager, Hy-Tek, and Microsoft Office
