What You'll Do Process Engineers function as the subject matter expert (SME) on weapon operation processes. They develop, maintain, and improve weapons assembly, disassembly, and testing processes in support of the Pantex Plant Operations Mission. Their duties are vital to ensuring the reliability and integrity of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile. Process Engineers ensure weapon operation processes comply with customer specifications and requirements, including Design Agency specifications and safety basis requirements. They seek approval for readiness assessments on new processes, supervise startup plans, and ensure tests are conducted as written. They develop, maintain, and lead implementation of new weapon processes and changes on existing processes. Process Engineers conduct process studies and evaluations and lead efforts to resolve technical issues that may affect production, quality, efficiency, capability, and capacity. They also participate in training for operations personnel.

Responsibilities

Coordinating and executing the writing, editing, and revising of Operating Procedures in accordance with Design Agency drawings, specifications, technical papers, reports, and other documentation.

Coordinating verification and validation of documents with technical and operations personnel prior to release for approval and implementation.

Recommending, preparing, and maintaining operating procedures and historical information.

Acting as technical and project lead for weapon systems.

Leading and implementing change throughout Pantex and the Nuclear Weapons Complex.

Interacting with organizations across the Nuclear Weapons Complex.

Presenting information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word.

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related) from an ABET‑accredited program in the United States or listed equivalents from Canada or Mexico, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 and at least 4 years of relevant experience.

OR a Master’s degree in engineering/physical science with a minimum 3.3/4.0 GPA and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

OR a PhD in engineering/physical science with a minimum 3.5/4.0 GPA.

Minimum GPA requirement applies up to 4 years post‑graduation and will be confirmed by transcript; beyond four years, engineering experience supersedes GPA as a requirement for hire.

Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements

In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must meet DOE O 426.2A requirements, which include Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years of job‑related experience and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative. DOE O 426.2A experience can be satisfied after employment. New hires will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities until the experience requirements are met.

Requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, the candidate must complete a counter‑intelligence scope polygraph per 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
