Performs, evaluates and monitors laboratory testing performed at the point of care throughout the RSFH system following established standards, policies and procedures. Trains and supports testing personnel at all levels to maintain testing quality and compliance with regulatory agencies.
Essential Job Functions
Technical Skills/Instrumentation: Trains testing personnel on operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Point of Care instruments and testing procedures. Reports and reviews results and documents according to department policy. Leads method/instrument implementation for POCT methods/instruments including validation, training and competency. Performs and evaluates calibration verification, linearities and method correlations.
Communication: Communicates information and test results accurately, timely and professionally. Maintains good rapport with peers, management, physicians and hospital teammates. Follows through with issues/communications and responds in a timely manner. Performs regular rounding to testing sites. Reports Point of Care testing issues to the Laboratory Managers/Director and at the Laboratory Quality Council meetings.
Information Handling: Responsible for proper use of LIS and applicable middleware IT systems, ensuring proper ordering, receiving, reviewing and verifications of results, including quality control. Maintains confidentiality per RSFH policies.
Quality/Regulatory: Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements for laboratory testing. Completes orientation and training of Point of Care Testing in cooperation with Nurse trainers. Oversees competency assessments for POCT users as required by regulatory agencies. Performs review of technical metrics (QC, PT, Cal Ver, IQCP assessment) as required by regulatory agencies.
Compliance/Safety: Follows all safety and infection control guidelines. Maintains safe work environment and informs supervisor/manager of any safety issues. Completes all mandatory education and participates in continuing education.
Licensing/Certification
ASCP certification as MT/MLS
Education
B.S. or M.S. in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution (required)
Work Experience
Two years clinical laboratory experience (required)
Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills
Must be capable of operating laboratory instrumentation and making sound, well-informed decisions under stressful conditions and time constraints.
Demonstrates ability to organize testing workflow, support and train testing personnel, develop and implement training guidelines to ensure quality patient care.
Demonstrates proficiency in computer systems to include clinical and office application programs.
Soft/Interpersonal Skills
Must maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrates exceptional customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
