Youth Program Associate – Howell County
University of Missouri‑Columbia, Office of Extension and Engagement, 4‑H Center for Youth Development – Howell County, West Plains, MO.
Position Overview The University of Missouri Extension 4‑H Center for Youth Development develops and delivers programs that foster citizenship, leadership, and life skills among Missouri’s youth. This position assists in planning, managing, and supporting 4‑H Youth Development programs in Howell County under the guidance of the 4‑H Youth Development Specialist.
Essential Duties
Advocate for positive youth development within the community and MU Extension.
Build and expand external local partnerships (schools, community centers, youth‑serving organizations).
Develop internal partnerships across UM Colleges and Missouri Extension programs.
Coordinate, plan, manage, and evaluate curriculum focused on leadership, civic engagement, STEM, healthy living, agriculture, and career exploration (both face‑to‑face and online).
Build capacity among volunteers and community partners to implement 4‑H programs.
Develop leadership capacity among youth participants.
Assist in managing financial and in‑kind resources.
Coordinate and conduct educational events, contests, camps, and programs.
Promote statewide events and contests.
Report accomplishments and impacts to supervisors, funders, and stakeholders.
Assist with record‑keeping and report preparation.
Ensure county residents can participate in extension programs.
Engage in training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
Travel, work flexible hours incl. evenings and weekends, as required.
Conduct all activities in compliance with civil rights and disability laws.
Perform additional duties as required to support MU Extension mission.
Leadership Received & Exercised Administrative supervision is received from the assigned Field Specialist/Educator in 4‑H Youth Development. This position is not responsible for supervision.

Minimum of six hours in one or more 4‑H Professional, Research, Knowledge and Competency (PRKC) domains for youth development.
Experience with direct care and interaction with children through YMCA, daycare, schools, or recreational facilities.
Self‑motivated, initiative‑seeking, and able to work with minimum supervision.
Evaluation Criteria
Yearly Plan of Work based on local needs.
Implementation of hands‑on learning with emphasis on leadership, civic engagement, etc.
Building internal and external partnerships.
Effective use of social media and IT.
Organization, accuracy, dependability, and teamwork.
Strong communication with partners, youth, volunteers, and community members.
Marketing, promotion, and evaluation of programs.
Creativity and problem‑solving.
Synthesis and communication of relevant information.
Recruitment, development, and training of youth and adult volunteers.
Salary & Benefits Hourly rate: $15.00–$17.00. Grade: GGS‑005.
