Press Operator
Reports to:
Production Manager
Summary:
Operates Gravure Printing Press to produce “Best In Class” packaging for domestic and international use.
Press Operations Operates press, troubleshoots and monitors press operation. Prepares press by performing a variety of tasks to produce a consistent, high quality product by matching inks, resolving defects and making adjustments to exceed customer expectation. Handles make‑ready tasks and press operations from mixing inks and solvents, replenishing supplies, resolving printing defects and making necessary adjustments. Oversees roll‑stand service, checks posted viscosity time to maintain correct viscosity of inks, checks and keeps solvent and ink containers filled, fills auto‑viscosity containers, solvent tanks and cans as needed, makes adjustments, clears jams while processing product, maintaining speed and quality. Ensures efficient and rapid make‑ready, with unloading and loading of printing carriages and rotary tools.
Quality Ensures quality of jobs completed by reviewing for quality and accuracy. Inspects cartons for proper color, register, cutting, creasing and defect free. Ensures finished product meets or exceeds customer expectations. Ensures all checklists are completed.
EHS and Clean Ensures complete adherence and compliance to the EHS and Clean policies. Assists team members in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Follows all company policies and procedures for safety, personal protection and hazardous materials/waste handling according to established guidelines. Follows personal protection procedures by use of appropriate personal protective equipment at all times in designated areas and specific tasks requiring PPE. Follows procedures for the handling and disposal of hazardous materials/waste. Maintains proper uniform according to company policy. Uses company-provided safety lifting equipment (hoist, jacks, vacuum manipulators, etc.). Examines work areas regularly to keep them safe and neat. Demonstrates ability to maintain work area in a safe and proper working order and coaches Press Crew in safe work practices and compliance on press.
Communications Interacts with the team and co‑workers in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and contributes to excellent performance. Communicates accurate information to all team members in a professional and courteous manner that conveys willingness to assist. Accepts direction and feedback from supervisor and follows through appropriately.
Leadership Creates and maintains a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation. Develops the team and encourages each member to perform tasks correctly and efficiently. Communicates regularly with the team toward goals and required results, providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when goals or results are not met. Motivates crew to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provides training as required. Consistently uses appropriate established channels of communication. Conducts team meetings when necessary. Must be able to perform any and all work or additional tasks as required or requested by Department Leads, Shift Leads, or Management.
Requirements High School diploma (or GED) and a minimum of 3 years of press operation with specific Gravure printing and troubleshooting. Proven interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer skills and mathematical skills necessary to compute percentages, weights and measures.
Physical Demands This position requires prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking. Frequent lifting in excess of 60 lbs is required. Must be able to hold, touch, feel and manipulate with hands product and equipment in a safe manner. Manual dexterity is required. Use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus as well as good eye‑hand coordination. Must be able to rotate shifts. Must be available to work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week when necessary to meet customer product needs. Must be able to work in repetitive functions as well as other duties as required.
