Position Purpose & Description The Director will serve as the primary point of contact for veteran Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and other military-connected students and will work to foster an environment on campus that supports their unique needs. The director will provide information and referrals to veterans, ROTC, and other military-connected students, making connections across schools, faculty, and staff. The position will also act as Dartmouth’s primary liaison to pertinent internal and external veteran support/affinity offices and organizations and collaborate with all schools to understand and support veteran recruitment efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Represent student veteran and military connected interests to other administrative departments.

Assist in the coordination, development, and execution of policies related to veteran students on campus.

Serve as a key resource to Dartmouth’s enrollment management and retention efforts related to student veterans.

Represent Dartmouth College and actively participate in local, regional, and national veteran and military related organizations, programs, events, and conferences.

Connect veterans to on- and off-campus resources.

Remain current on veteran issues affecting higher education.

Bridge gaps between military‑focused efforts, enhancing collaboration and reinforcing a resilient, inclusive community on Dartmouth Campus.

Collaborate and communicate with Dartmouth offices across the schools that provide support for military-connected students, employees, and alumni.

Serve as an advisor to student veterans and military connected organizations and clubs.

Using evidence-based approaches, assess the needs of the student veteran and military-connected population to determine and develop services and program needs and opportunities.

Collaborate with key offices on campus to develop support programs for student veterans, including but not limited to orientation and graduation events.

Support and help guide Dartmouth’s Veterans Day Advisory Group.

Lead teams and initiatives requiring cross-departmental participation, cooperation, and support to identify needs and improve pathways to success for veteran, military-connected, and ROTC student success.

Serve as the lead convener of Dartmouth’s Military Connected Advisory Group.

In partnership with admissions at each school, aid in developing recruiting pathways to attract military-affiliated students to campus.

Work with Dartmouth’s various schools to understand and support their veteran and military-connected recruiting efforts.

Partner current marketing efforts to veteran students by reviewing & leveraging existing veteran‑focused messaging, while developing new data‑driven marketing campaigns, and expanding outreach initiatives that align with campus policies and directly boost veteran student enrollment.

Partner with the Certifying Official and Financial Aid team to certify veteran enrollment, streamline VA‑benefit disbursements, and remove financial barriers, thereby boosting veteran recruitment and retention.

Manage the budget established to support the office’s work.

Manage and supervise the part‑time Program Administrator position.

Hire, train, and supervise student and/or temporary employees to support veteran and military-connected initiatives.

Develop, oversee, maintain, and further develop Dartmouth’s main veteran website.

Maintain an active database/list-serve of current veteran, ROTC, and military-connected students, staff, faculty, and alumni.

Work with Advancement to provide stewardship and recognition with donors.

Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a larger team.

Ability to use good judgment, manage high volume of work, and meet overlapping deadlines.

Excellent writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to interact knowledgeably with students and professionals at all levels.

5–8 years of professional experience working with the military and/or veterans and military-connected students.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher.

Military service with an honorable discharge.
