Position Purpose As a member of a teaching team, the Associate Teacher works under the direction of the Lead Teacher to meet the care, developmental, and educational needs of a group of children. Works with all staff to create a warm, caring, and safe environment for the care of young children, participates in planning and implementing the curriculum, guides children’s behavior, communicates with parents, records developmental progress, and supervises part‑time staff. Assumes role of Lead Teacher in his/her absence.
Required Qualifications
Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Credits: 9 credits in Early Childhood Education

Responsibilities Classroom Management
Assist in creating and maintaining an attractive and well‑organized classroom that encourages creativity and exploration.
Assist with transitions from home to school.
Maintain awareness of the whereabouts of each child.
Help establish behavior guidelines and follow through with appropriate expectations.
Provide guidance and redirection when required, using positive guidance techniques.
Help children resolve their own conflicts.
Model and teach developmentally appropriate behavior and skills.
Create an environment where children feel safe and secure throughout the day.
Respond to observed needs for attention, reassurance, etc.
Assist children in managing their feelings positively.
Verify that individuals other than parents/guardians are authorized to escort children.
Ensure that children are signed in and out.
Health and Safety
Ensure safety and well‑being of children at all times.
Implement health policies, including proper hygiene, toileting, and diapering procedures.
Report accidents and injuries, provide first aid as needed.
Ensure children are dressed appropriately for health and safety.
Dispense and store medications per Center policies.
Family Relationships
Maintain confidentiality about children and families.
Communicate with families to share info about daily activities.
Provide suggestions in response to families’ requests or concerns.
Participate in regular family conferences; communicate through bulletin boards, newsletters, and written notes.
Assist in arranging events and activities for children and families.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide assistance to other classrooms as necessary.
Collaborate with other classrooms on activities and events.
Assist in maintaining shared spaces.
Participate in the maintenance of equipment and supplies and inform Lead Teacher or office of needs.
Participate in standing and ad‑hoc center committees.
Pursue ongoing professional development.
Work with other staff members on center development and on resolution of center issues.
Assists with supervising temporary staff and volunteers.
Participates in regular team meetings.
Assumes the role of Lead Teacher in their absence.
Coordinate meal and snack preparation, ensuring children have adequate nutritious food.
Models good eating habits and manners and promotes a relaxing mealtime environment.
