Position Information
Position Title: Access Control Technician I Position Number: 1129258 Posting Date: 12/15/2025 Union: SEIU Level P (Union positions available during first week only for SEIU members; after one week open to general public) Location: Hanover, NH (Onsite only)
Position Purpose
The Access Control Tech I will have skills and knowledge in the installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of security and access systems:
Responsibilities
Install new locks and door hardware on interior and exterior doors, cabinets and equipment casings as part of construction and remodeling projects. Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and maintain existing door hardware, electronic or mechanical locks, door closers, ADA operators, and disassemble locks. Bypass (“pick”) locks using industry standards. Cuts and issues new keys to authorized personnel. Install, pin, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrified locks. Rekey locks and change locker combinations for security purposes. Plan, coordinate, and execute approximately 2,500 lock changes annually for student dorm rooms. Plan and install key systems in accordance with the Access Control Shop’s practices for master key systems. Maintain accurate records of all keys, locks, and other security devices. Maintain inventory of hardware supplies and tools; prepare purchase requisitions as needed. Plan work details and follow schematics, wiring diagrams, or blueprints on all equipment and systems. Review drawings and plans for appropriate security devices. Enter data into the access control system. Perform electronic door access control programming. Assist in regular testing and maintenance of access control and alarm intrusion systems. Coordinate installation with the Department of Safety & Security and other maintenance trades. Determine work methods to accomplish assignments such as repairs, replacements or new installations. Maintain effective working relationships with constituents. Maintain knowledge of applicable codes and manufacturer’s training for college’s access control systems (e.g., Lenel, CBORD).
Qualifications
Education and Experience High School or equivalency. Technical school graduate or equivalent educational and vocational experience. At least three years of relevant experience, two of which must have been served as an apprentice or equivalent position. Skills and Knowledge Valid driver’s license and qualification under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy. Working knowledge of mechanical locking systems and electronic lock systems. Awareness of applicable codes: NFPA 101, NFPA 80, International Building Code, ADA. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and hardware schedules. General knowledge of College Construction Guidelines. Skill in hand and power tools, analog/digital test equipment, man lifts, testing devices, and ladders. Strong attention to detail and excellent problem‑solving skills. Effective written and verbal communication. Computer skills on laptop, tablet and smartphone; proficiency with Microsoft Office. Willingness to work overtime as required.
