Position Overview
The Legal Assistant serves in a supporting role for an attorney team within the firm. This person accepts delegated tasks from attorneys, paralegals, and staff, including but not limited to preparing estate planning folders, making outbound phone calls to clients to arrange delivery of their finalized documents, serving as a witness in client signings, drafting correspondence, filing paperwork at the Courthouse, and preparing documents for client signings.
This position is 34 hours per week Monday through Thursday with a lunch break and requires working in our Knoxville office.
Qualifications and Characteristics
1. Associate’s degree strongly preferred.
2. Patient, kind, and compassionate toward clients and coworkers.
3. Task‑driven, organized, and able to meet deadlines as assigned by team members.
4. Adept with computers/technology for operating in a semi‑paperless office. Should already be familiar with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel; will need to quickly develop proficiency with Actionstep client management software, as well as Teams and Zoom.
5. Excellent communication skills with clients, families, firm staff, and attorneys.
6. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities in a fast‑paced, dynamic workplace.
7. Highly attentive to detail, with command of business and legal writing, strong proofreading skills, basic math skills, and high standards for work product.
8. Comfortable working with elders, people with disabilities, their families, and other professionals.
9. Professional in appearance and demeanor.
10. Maintains the highest standards of confidentiality.
11. Has a clean background check and qualifies as a Notary Public.
