Food Services Assistant - Multiple Openings (Full-Time & Part-Time, Varied Shifts Available)
We are currently hiring for multiple positions in this role. Both full‑time and part‑time opportunities are available across various shifts. This position will be considered for current and future openings that match your skills and availability.
At Houston Methodist, the Food Services Assistant (FSA) is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the kitchen, patient tray line, and/or retail areas, such as assisting in tray assembly, simple food preparation, serving customers, replenishing stations, transporting food carts, and performing dishwashing duties. The FSA communicates with peers and management regarding identified hazards, follows correct procedures in cleaning equipment and sanitation, and complies with all departmental policies and relevant local Food Ordinances.
FLSA STATUS Non‑exempt.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent (preferred). Examples: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post‑secondary education.
Experience in a food service environment or large service establishment (preferred).
Food Handlers Permit issued by TXDSHS or ANSI.
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential functions.
Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers with a customer‑service focus.
Knowledge of Serve‑Safe guidelines and health department standards.
Knowledge of kitchen equipment and sanitation principles.
Active listening skills.
Essential Functions
People
– Interacts positively and professionally with patients, visitors, and staff; collaborates with Patient Services, Catering, Retail Services, and Production staff to ensure accurate, timely deliveries; reports issues to leadership.
Service
– Prepares and serves simple food items; delivers trays with accuracy and efficiency; assists with tray‑line assembly; transports supplies; maintains clean storage areas; retrieves soiled trays; sets up patient trays each meal period.
Quality/Safety
– Loads and transports food delivery carts properly; maintains food cart delivery log; presents food attractively at proper temperature; follows local Food Ordinances; keeps service area clean and sanitized; follows menus and prepares setups in advance.
Finance
– Minimizes food waste through portion control; uses resources cost‑effectively; manages time and prioritizes daily tasks.
Growth/Innovation
– Generates and communicates ideas to improve quality or service; identifies personal development needs; maintains My Development Plan.
