REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Student Services, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Job Summary To serve both general & special education students, and to assist students and their families with social, emotional, academic, environmental or cultural issues which interfere with or limit the student’s adjustment or achievement in school.
Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Social Work required
Social Work License preferred
School Social Work License preferred
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
Able to demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer and word processing software
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with educators, administrators, building employees, parents, students, and the public
Responsibilities
Provides short-term therapeutic counseling services to student re: academic, personal or family issues based upon referrals received from staff, student, or parent
Conducts assessments of student and school community needs
Develops and implements a plan of intervention based on the assessments conducted
Facilitates various support groups & preventive program as needed to help students cope with personal and social concerns
Serves as a consulting member of a school multidisciplinary team when needed
Consults and/or collaborates with school staff, and with parents, regarding strategies to help students cope with personal and social concerns
Serves as a member of the School Crisis Response Team and provides crisis intervention services as needed
Maintains a familiarization with local community service organizations for use as referral sources
Provides referrals to local community service organizations for specialized services
Provides classroom-based interventions/presentations as appropriate (within the area of competence) as needed
If qualified may supervise Social Work interns (Bachelors or Master’s level) as needed
Participates in scheduled social work and school administration meetings
Prepares various written reports, documents, and files relevant to the planning &management of services provided
Maintains all records ensuring appropriate confidentiality and security
Performs all duties as assigned by the Director of Diversity & Student Services & Building Principal
Performs all duties in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics
EFFECTIVE: 2025-2026 school year
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Corporation’s policy on staff evaluation.
