Job Goal(s)
Shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Principal for Student Services
Will follow policies, rules and regulations of the school district
Shall perform any other duties as assigned by Principal, Assistant Principal of Student Services, and Special Education Coordinator
Major Duties & Performance Responsibilities Direct Service
Counsels individual students, groups, and families regarding related issues.
Evaluates students to determine their need for school social work or other services.
Conducts the social developmental study and additional relevant and appropriate assessments (BASC, BRIEF, etc.) for students referred for special education evaluation or re-evaluations.
Provides crisis intervention services.
Assists the district in developing Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, and participates in the educational teams recommendations based on results of the assessments.
Participates in the identification and solution of school problems.
Counseling with Students
Special education caseload, general education students coordinated by MTSS teams, short-term, crisis intervention
Group, i.e. development of social skills, support groups for special problems.
Indirect Services
Acts as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies.
Consults with classroom teachers, case managers, administration, and parents to help them better understand and work with particular students.
Participates in case conferences with other school specialists such as school guidance counselors, school psychologists, school nurse, deans, etc.
Makes referrals to appropriate resources within the school and/or community.
Participates as an integral member of the Student Services department and related teams.
Multi-tiered System of Supports
School-wide MTSS team member
Assist with Child Find responsibilities and identification of students requiring special education evaluation
Help with administration of social-emotional learning assessments
Develop and implement plans for individual students; progress monitor
Professional Activities and Renewal
Demonstrates professional ethics consistent with the National Association of Social Worker’s code of ethics.
Attends all appropriate, relevant and expected meetings and abides by school policies and procedures.
Serve as the Local Education Agency representative at meetings where directed by the administration
Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
Develops and adheres to a workable schedule for service delivery.
Establishes professional renewal objectives and activities, which have measurable outcomes.
Contributes information to support policy and procedures.
Community Networking
Liaison as needed between family, school and community support agencies/professionals
Providing information to community groups
Performs other relevant duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator, Principal, or Assistant Principal of Student Services
