Responsibilities
Investigate offenders’ home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board; collect, verify, and evaluate data; incorporate into reports and records; assess needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies to ensure effective offender management/public safety; submit reports to designated legal authorities.
Contact offenders in their homes, places of employment, or confinement and counsel them regarding personal/adjustment problems; attend court to receive court assignments and make reports.
Assist in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders; cooperate with public/private agencies and law enforcement; investigate offender violations; take appropriate action including issuance of warrants.
Prepare statistical reports of activities; administer/observe breathalyzer/urinalysis testing; assist in special investigations/research projects/other activities; serve on committees/task forces within the Department and community; perform other related work as assigned; as the employee becomes more experienced/demonstrates proficiency, levels of supervision become more general.
Possess a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Complete safety training including defensive tactics and re‑qualify annually.
Minimum Qualifications
Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Or four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities; and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
