American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a focus on oncology and telemetry care, requiring an OH or compact RN license.
Job Details
- Position is in a hospital-based, high-acuity PCU with medical oncology and progressive care beds,
- 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with more than 24 beds at PCU level and occasional pediatric patients (pediatric RN experience not required),
- Patient diagnoses include solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology cases,
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 for Med Surg Tele and 1:3 for PCU patients,
- Night shift position with 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30); day/night shift option available,
- Float required to units of equivalent or lower acuity,
- Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, bladder scanners, Stryker beds, and PCA pumps,
- Initial orientation consists of one week on dayshift and a second week with on-unit preceptor,
Job Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration,
- Certifications required: BCLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale,
- Minimum of 2 years recent high-acuity PCU experience required,
- Experience in oncology preferred but not required,
- Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response, IV starts, feeding tube care, central and peripheral line management, and blood product administration,
- EMR/charting system experience not specified,
- Education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required,
- Must provide two professional references, one from a formal leader or supervisor,

- Responsibilities include care for oncology and high-acuity PCU patients, infection prevention, fall prevention, and various specialized procedures such as chest tube management and tracheostomy care,
- Self-scheduling is available, with requests submitted before final schedules are posted,
- Weekend shifts are variable; holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs,
- Training includes structured orientation with preceptor support,
- Strict compliance with Ohio fingerprinting process is required upon contract signing,
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
- Former employees must have a 6-month gap before being eligible for travel assignments,
- Locals are accepted at the same rate,
