Salary Range:
$75,000 - $83,200 (anticipated hiring range)
FTE:
0.80 or 1.00 (part-time or full-time appointment)
Overview The School of Dental Medicine is composed of four academic departments: Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and General Dentistry. The mission is to educate dental care providers and to address oral health care needs of underserved populations in North Carolina. Clinics located in Ross Hall, Greenville and Community Service‑Learning Centers throughout the state provide educational experiences for students and residents and deliver care to community members.
Responsibilities
Review and revise patient histories, record vital signs, and chart existing restorations on new patients.
Perform thorough oral prophylaxes (cleanings) using ultrasonic devices, scaling instruments, polishing, and flossing.
Educate patients on preventive practice philosophy, plaque removal methods, and nutritional guidance.
Apply topical fluorides, occlusal sealants, and prepare study models as indicated.
Explain treatment alternatives and record specific treatments performed on patient charts.
Expose, process, and mount necessary x‑rays.
Assist chairside as needed, handle instrument sterilization, sharpening, and maintenance of all instruments.
Reconfirm appointments, escort patients to and from operatories, and clean and disinfect operatories between visits.
Maintain patient recall system, assist front‑desk duties, and participate in all staff meetings.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of North Carolina.
CPR certificate and radiology certification (preferred).
Demonstrated ability to perform patient care, education, and clinical support as described.
