Job Summary
The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
At least two (2) years of recent acute care RN experience
At least three (3) years of recent ambulatory clinic RN experience
At least one (1) year of recent urology RN experience
Experience telephone triage and triaging referrals
EPIC experience
At least two (2) years of recent Oncology experience
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
Knowledge of current trends in nursing.

Department Overview The Department of Urologic Surgery at UC Davis is committed to providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical care for pediatric and adult urology patients. Our department also is at the forefront of basic scientific and translational research as well as being a primary site for clinical trials that offer new hope for patients. Our surgeons specialize in every area of urology working closely with medical oncologists, pediatricians, radiation therapists and gynecologic surgeons to provide comprehensive care. We also have a dedicated research staff in molecular and cell biology, tumor biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics. For clinical trials, we not only treat patients with the latest in clinical technology, but we also understand their conditions in the laboratory environment. The special services we offer range from surgery for aggressive and locally advanced urologic tumors to reconstructive and minimally invasive procedures. Department Specific Job Scope This position will support department telephone triage, respond to secure patient messages, medication management, process court orders, assist with surgery coordination and new patient referrals. Telephone triage will include patient and family education regarding a variety of bladder, kidney, prostate, and other urinary tract disorders. Collaboration with providers, staff, family members and patients are required to ensure medications, lifestyle changes, and ancillary services are appropriate. The patient population is diverse with multiple comorbidities therefore the nurse must be a strong resource for our patients and staff.
This position will focus on patient centered care including assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing care plan for areas of urologic disease management. All walk‑in patients will be assessed by RN and sent to the ED as appropriate. The nurse must be familiar with signs and symptoms of infection and be comfortable assessing post‑op patients. This position is required to adhere to university policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
This position will also be responsible for data and metrics consistent with quality improvement efforts.
