CDOC Social Worker/Counselor IV-Mental Health Supervisor – (STERLING) Colorado Department of Corrections

Job Overview Position located in Sterling, CO. Open to residents and non-residents of Colorado. The Mental Health Supervisor provides leadership, oversight, and vision for the mental health clinical program at the Sterling facility.

Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and maintain delivery of mental health services, ensuring compliance with guidelines and optimal resource usage.

Coordinate with facility administration, staff, and other clinical administrators, establish treatment plans, and manage offenders with mental illness or other special needs.

Provide training on mental health needs, direct management of psychiatric crises and emergencies.

Supervise, assess, and evaluate staff competence and efficiency; recommend hiring and corrective actions.

Ensure compliance with all applicable mental health standards; interface with CDOC departments, outside agencies, and clinical services administration.

Facilitate communication and team building within the unit and across CDOC departments.

Manage payroll entry and resolve daily operational issues.

Consult and train facility and community service providers on treating incarcerated offenders with mental illness.

Participate in evaluations, assessments, and provide therapy and crisis intervention, including 24‑hour on‑call rotation.

Maintain credentials, licensure, and certifications required for specialized practice.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid active license in Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Two (2) years of licensed or licensure‑candidacy experience with mental health and/or sex offender populations.

Current valid licensure from the State of Colorado (LSW, LPCC, SWC, or MFTC).

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience with professional, behavioral health staff.

Clinical supervision of employees or interns, including treatment plan review.

Experience treating severely mentally ill and developmentally disabled populations.

Leadership and oversight of a mental health program.

Conditions of Employment

Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.

No felony convictions that would disqualify employment.

Legally eligible to work in the United States; CDOC does not sponsor non‑residents.

Successful completion of Basic Training, defensive tactics, and required medical screening.

Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during training and assignment.
