Base pay range: $260,000.00/yr - $390,000.00/yr
Position Summary We are seeking a motivated mid-level (typically 3-6 years) Labor & Employment Associate to support and advance the firm's transactional and advisory employment work. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in employment law, excellent drafting and analytical skills, and experience providing strategic counseling to clients on employment matters, including matters that intersect with corporate transactions and business operations.
This role involves advising employers on employment law compliance and risk mitigation, drafting and negotiating employment-related agreements and policies, and assisting with employment aspects of corporate transactions. The position provides exposure to sophisticated legal work across multiple industries and the opportunity to collaborate with senior attorneys on high-impact client matters.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with employment‑related due diligence in corporate transactions (M&A, private equity investments, restructurings), including identifying potential labor and employment liabilities and drafting related summaries.
Work directly with sophisticated clients including financial institutions, asset managers, and corporations to understand their needs and provide pragmatic legal solutions.
Draft and negotiate key employment‑related provisions in corporate agreements, such as restrictive covenants, representations and warranties, transition services, and employment/retention agreements.
Collaborate with corporate and benefits teams on employment aspects of deals to ensure compliance and protect client interests.
Provide strategic advice and counseling to employers on federal, state, and local employment law issues, including hiring, performance management, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence, and terminations.
Assist clients with drafting, reviewing, and updating employment documents such as offer letters, employment contracts, severance agreements, non‑competes, and other restrictive covenants to align with legal requirements and business goals.
Help develop, refine, and implement workplace policies, handbooks, and employment practices to mitigate risk and promote compliance with applicable labor and employment standards.
Communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively in written and oral form to clients and colleagues.
Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and responsiveness.
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school; admitted to practice in New York.
3‑6 years of substantive experience in labor & employment law with an emphasis on transactional and counseling work; prior law firm experience preferred.
Strong experience drafting and negotiating employment contract‑related documents (e.g., employmentcompetition agreements).
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal and state employment laws and regulations.
Excellent legal research, analytical reasoning, and communication skills.
