Support Associate – Patient Transport
This position provides support to the patient care team by attending to specified patient needs, transporting patients and items to and from testing areas, and moving supplies throughout the facility.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
Obtain certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.
West Virginia state criminal background check required; Federal check if applicable for DHHR BMS regulated areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Escort patients and items safely to appropriate departments.
Greet patients and identify self; assist patients in preparing for transport.
Monitor patient monitoring and invasive devices during transport; intervene in emergencies.
Transport patients with oxygen, handling and storing oxygen as required.
Report patient concerns or condition changes to RN during transport.
Notify RN promptly upon return of patient.
Disinfect wheelchairs and stretchers after each use.
Assist with transport of patients and possessions to discharge vehicles.
Transport patients and items to and from all areas of the WVUH campus.
Use the patient transport dispatching system per Department Manager guidelines.
Maintain proper oxygen tank levels daily on each unit.
Return wheelchairs and stretchers to their places of origin.
Physical Requirements
Minimize manual lifting; limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds; use lift equipment or aids.
Handle materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; push/pull carts up to 200 pounds.
Working Environment The work environment includes frequent lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking for extended periods. Additional details about noise, temperature, and exposure to substances are as per facility guidelines.
Skills and Abilities
Unlicensed assistive personnel may have limited access to medications, including non‑controlled substances during transport as directed by a licensed care provider.
