Responsibilities
A. POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform the primary function of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients.
Interact with hospital staff and ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts, identifying and assisting in resolution.
Operate during shift without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor.
As a FED Registered Nurse, manage ventilator care, perform lab draws including ABGs, place and answer phone calls, page on‑call resources, respond/activate Code Blue, and housekeeping as needed.
Maintain performance skills and ensure compliance with all policies.
Work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on‑call/call‑back status.
Qualifications
RN licensure in the State of Texas (or compact/temporary license pending permanent).
Willingness to be cross‑trained to other unit areas.
Commitment to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, including attendance at required training and immediate reporting of suspected issues.
Associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or diploma from an accredited School of Nursing or University (effective Jan 6 2012). New graduate RN’s may provide program documentation.
Maintain current AHA healthcare provider certifications, including:
XBCLS/CPR – must be current upon hire and thereafter.
XACLS – required for FED RN; one year or less of experience – obtain within 12 months of hire; over one year – within 6 months.
XPALS – same as XACLS.
XNRP – same as XACLS.
XTNCC – TNCC required for FED RN; same renewal schedule.
XCPI – same as XACLS.
Familiarity with basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
Pass the Medication Assessment within 3 months of joining the department with a score of 90 % or greater.
