What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Analyze, abstract, and code selected oncology cases using various manuals and standards
Serve as a liaison for registry functions and provide training for new staff
Collaborate with the cancer registry team to ensure high levels of satisfaction
Maintain automated records and manual filing systems for efficient registry operations
Prepare data submissions to the Massachusetts Cancer Registry and assist with accreditation processes
What is Required (Qualifications)
Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist required within two years of hire
Excellent knowledge of medical terminology and cancer staging
Strong understanding of the American College of Surgeons’ accreditation standards
Experience with multiple patient medical record systems (EMRs) and clinical databases
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Coursework in anatomy and physiology
Experience working at a CoC-accredited facility
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple projects
Technical savvy with a strong desire to learn new systems and technology
